James Daniel Fox, 33, a beloved resident of DeFuniak Springs, passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2024, due to a medical episode. Born on September 26, 1990, in Kansas City, Missouri, James was a man of deep character, known for his unwavering dedication to family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
At the age of 11, James and his family moved to Navarre, Florida, where he was embraced by a community that he, in turn, loved deeply. James was a devoted son, a proud father, a loving fiancé, and a friend to all. He was a protector, a peacekeeper, and a mentor who lived with a servant’s heart. He was a man’s man, the life of every gathering, with an infectious spirit that brought joy to those around him.
James is survived by his father, Dan Fox; his mother, Sherry Dotson Fox; his son, Dakota Daniel Fox; his oldest son, Tyler Phelps, and wife Destiny; his fiancée, Elizabeth Ward; and the children he helped raise as his own, Tyler Ward, Keaton Ward, and Kelsey Ward. He was also the proud grandfather to three beautiful grandchildren, Lucas, Brinn, and Skylar.
A 2009 graduate of Navarre High School, but most recently, James lived with his fiancé and family in DeFuniak Springs. The couple was planning to marry in October 2024. James found fulfillment in his career as a Senior Project Manager for Paul Patrick Electric from 2020 to 2024. Known for his ability to connect with anyone, James never met a stranger.
James had a deep love for hunting, fishing, and watching his Kansas City Chiefs, especially when surrounded by friends. His passion for racing, ignited at a young age at Southern Raceway, was a significant part of his life. Racing with his uncle Rodney and cousin Mike Roland was just the beginning of a lifelong love for the sport, a passion he passed on to his son Dakota. Whether on the track or as a member of Dakota’s pit crew, James shared many cherished moments with his sons. When James returned to racing, it was his sons Dakota and Tyler who stood by his side, embodying the racing spirit that ran through their veins. His fiancée, parents, and the team at Paul Patrick Electric, one of his sponsors, supported him every step of the way.
Outside of his time racing and moments spent with family, James found solace and joy at the Alaqua Hunting Lodge. It was there, amidst friends, duty, nature, and festivities, that he met his beautiful bride-to-be, Elizabeth. The lodge became a special place for James, where he forged lifelong friendships and created memories that would shape the rest of his life.
James’ presence at the track, at the lodge, and in the community has left an enduring imprint on many lives. He served those around him with unwavering loyalty and was loved by all who knew him. Though he may be gone, the memories he created, the love he shared, and the legacy he left behind will continue to inspire and comfort all who had the privilege of knowing him.
